One voice in 49 cities A quick glance at the work of 20 June Campaign The International day of action to support political prisoners in Iran

Campaign to Free Political Prisoners in Iran (CFPPI) has called, and established 20 June as the international day of action to support political prisoners in Iran. The CFPPI formed a special campaign called 20 June Campaign to organize and carry out this event in June 2011, and to gather an international support for the political prisoners in Iran. The 20 June campaign organized a wide variety of activities and some of the highlights are listed in this report.

On 20 June 2011 there was one voice, one united voice demanding the freedom of all political prisoners in Iran and echoing the voice of these prisoners beyond the borders of any one country. There was a positive and unanimous international response against the oppression and suppression of freedom of speech and political activities by the Islamic regime in Iran.

On 20 June 2011 there was one widespread call to stop torturing and executing political prisoners in Iran, and to free them all immediately and unconditionally.

Below are the highlights of 20 June Campaign’s activities during the past two months, and up until the 20 June 2011.

1.     20 June Campaign organized demonstration in 49 cities across the world from America, Australia, Europe and Iran to raise awareness on the situation of political prisoners in Iran. These demonstrations successfully fulfilled the aims and objectives of the campaign. 20 June 2011 was a triumph for political prisoners in Iran. Please see the links below for  pictures:

2.     Organizing literature tables in different cities to exhibit the situation of political prisoners in Iran and to discuss the continuous torture, executions, and serious violation of human rights carried out by the Islamic regime.

3.     Photo exhibitions for the same reason as above

4.     Concert in support of political prisoners in Iran in England on 29 May 2011.

5.     More than 3000 post cards which was previously designed to attract support for political prisoners in Iran and was called “I am her voice, I am his voice”, was circulated in different countries in the past 6 months and was signed by thousands of people. These post cards have been sent to the Human Rights Commission of the UN.

6.     A petition which was designed to gather signatures in support of political prisoners in Iran, and was signed by thousands was sent to the Human Rights Commission of the UN.

7.     During this long campaign numerous letters were sent to the heads of states including Canada, Netherland, United Kingdom, European Parliament, and Human Rights Commissions of the UN. There were supportive responses from the foreign ministry of the Netherland, and also from Catherine Ashton in foreign affairs division of the EU Parliament.

8.     In support of 20 June, Mr. Soleyman Chokoli has started cycling on 18 June 2011 from Norway to European Parliament in Belgium in order to raise an awareness of the situation of political prisoners in Iran. Mr. Chokoli is aiming to accomplish this mission within a month and to reach the EU Parliament in 18 July.

9.     A wide variety of radio and television programs picked up the issue, interviewed Shiva Mahbobi the spokesperson of the Campaign, and broadcasted the information on 20 June.

On 20 June 2011 there was one widespread call to stop torturing and executing political prisoners in Iran, and to free these prisoners immediately and unconditionally. We don’t consider our mission accomplished as long as there are political prisoners in Iran, and we will work hard to achieve this objective. With the momentum we have gathered this year, and with the continuous efforts and activities of our team throughout 2011-2012, we aim to organize a stronger action day in 2012. We hope to have your support as strong as we had this year.

I would like to thank all the individuals and organizations that supported us and participated in 20 June campaign this year.

I would like to invite concerned individuals and organizations to be the voice of political prisoners in Iran and to join us in our fight to free political prisoners in Iran.
